2008 Summer Bridge Program
The Summer Bridge Program is designed
for students who are 18 years or older and will be entering as freshmen, associate degree students entering four-year
degree programs, returning non-traditional students and returning adult
students with families. The program gives these students the opportunity to increase their academic
preparation, degree expectations, academic excellence and retention.
- Students are provided a
multidisciplinary program that emphasizes teamwork, community
building, technology, technical communications, interpersonal
communications, mathematics and computer applications.
- The 10-credit hour course work in
English, Computers and Mathematics is designed to address the critical
skills identified by faculty and students for American Indian students
to be successful.
- Students will participate in a two-hour/week
Portfolio Sessions in financial management, scholarship preparation and financial
aid, stress management, team building, time management, successful student writing, and learning styles to enhance study techniques and learn necessary skills to ultimately increase personal and academic growth and success.
- Brings practicing American Indian
scientist and engineers together with students to share different
career opportunities in science, math, engineering and technology
fields that they would not otherwise be aware of.
Goals and Objectives:
- To help American Indian students
prepare for academic challenges in science, math, engineering,
technology and communications that face them in post secondary
education.
- To provide students with strong
social/interpersonal and academic bridges to help ensure they will be
successful in obtaining their degrees.
- Instill in students an awareness
of the value of advanced degrees.
- To provide students and their
families a nurturing and supporting environment.
