Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree
The BAS is a flexible degree plan designed specifically for students who have earned community college Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degrees.
-
To be admitted to the BAS, you must complete an AAS degree at a regionally accredited postsecondary institution.
-
You can then earn the BAS by completing a 60-semester-hour program offered by ASU's Polytechnic campus.
The BAS is a "capstone" or "inverted transfer" degree for the AAS. In completing the BAS you will complete all ASU graduation requirements. The goal of the program is to provide you with management, leadership, critical thinking, and communication skillsalong with significant work in a professional specializationthat will broaden your career horizons, promote life-long learning, and enrich your personal and civic life.

In consultation with an advisor, you will choose courses from the ASU General Studies list that contribute to a coherent overall curriculum and help you meet your educational goals.
Assignable Credit (6 semester hours): The BAS has no "hidden" prerequisites to extend the program requirements beyond 60 hours. Assignable Credit allows space in the curriculum for prerequisite courses you need to succeed in your program. For example, Assignable Credit may be used to strengthen your math/science capabilities. Otherwise, it may be applied to other areas of the program or used as free electives. The use of Assignable Credits will be worked out between you and your advisor.
BAS Core Curriculum (15 semester hours minimum): The BAS Core curriculum is focused on management and organization, professional communication, statistical processes, and computer competency. You must take at least one three-credit-hour course in each of four general categories:
Management and Organization
Professional Communication
Statistical Methods
Professional Computer Competency
The remaining three hours can be devoted to a second course in one of these areas. Assignable credit may also be used to build strength in core areas.
Concentrations (20 semester hours minimum): You will devote at least 20 semester hours to a specialization, either choosing from set curricula or developing a custom curriculum with the help of your advisor. Assignable credit may be used to enhance the specialization.
