Mission and Goals of the Department of Nutrition

Our mission is to provide students with a comprehensive, rigorous academic core of knowledge and professional skills to ensure future success in their chosen endeavors.

Our goals are to:

  • provide a rigorous and complete undergraduate and graduate education that is not only based on the scientific foundations of nutrition, but also prepares the student with strong writing skills, computer literacy, interpretive expertise, problem solving skills and research experience;
  • ensure that graduates of the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) have met the entry-level knowledge requirements as defined by the American Dietetic Association (ADA) and are able to successfully compete for and complete an accredited Dietetic Internship, as well as pass the Registration Examination for Dietitians;
  • provide the opportunity for graduate and undergraduate students to gain practical work experience in their chosen field or specialization while providing community service to various agencies and organizations within the metropolitan area;
  • recognize and adequately prepare undergraduate students interested in pursing a graduate or professional program of study; and
  • recognize and adequately prepare undergraduate students planning careers in food/nutrition-related positions in management, sales, marketing and production.
