Master of Education (M.Ed.) - Curriculum and Instruction

The Advanced Studies Program at ASU's Polytechnic campus offers several pathways for completing the M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction. You may participate in cohort programs, or choose an independent approach taking classes that fit your schedule and desired program of study. Each student selects one of the following concentrations:

  • Early Childhood Education (NEW for Fall 2008)
    The Early Childhood Education (ECD) concentration is designed for certified elementary or special education teachers wanting to enhance their knowledge in the area of Early Childhood Education, Birth – 3rd grade.  The concentration includes all of the courses and field experiences required by the Arizona Department of Education for an Early Childhood Endorsement.  All courses within this concentration are delivered 100% online. Effective July 1, 2009, all Arizona Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten teachers will be required to have an Early Childhood Education Certificate or Endorsement. Online ECD information and checksheet

  • English as a Second Language (ESL)
    The English as a Second Language (ESL) concentration provides advanced knowledge of curriculum, instructional practices, assessment and multicultural understanding as related to English Language Learners. The coursework required for the Arizona ESL endorsement can be completed as part of this concentration.

  • Instructional Media for K-12 (IMD)
    The Instructional Media concentration provides advanced knowledge of curriculum, instructional practices, assessment and the use of technology in the classroom.

  • Mathematics Education (NEW for Fall 2008)
    The Mathematics Education concentration is designed for current K-12 educators seeking advancement of their knowledge and skills in mathematics education. Emphasis will be placed on the growth of mathematical ideas and ways to facilitate that growth, on the development of problem solving and communication strategies and on the use of various technologies to enhance learning.

  • Professional Studies
    The Professional Studies concentration is grounded in the research and theory of curriculum and instruction. It allows you the opportunity to design a program based on your professional needs. You can work with an advisor to create a plan of study that incorporates a variety of content and discipline areas that are related to your teaching position or future career goals. These individualized programs may include the acquisition of more in-depth content knowledge or skill development, as well as the coursework required for Arizona teacher certification and/or endorsements in a variety of areas.

  • Science Education (NEW for Fall 2008)
    The Science Education concentration is designed for current K-12 educators seeking advancement of their skills in the area of science education. Emphasis will be placed on the growth of scientific ideas and ways to facilitate that growth, on the development of inquiry and communication strategies and the use of various technologies to enhance learning.
