Tuition Waivers

The Arizona Board of Regents allows reduced in-state tuition for eligible employees, retirees and disabled employees, and their spouses and dependent children, and certain others enrolling for credit courses at Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, or the University of Arizona. Reduced in-state tuition does not apply to noncredit or correspondence courses.

The program permits benefits eligible employees to take courses at ASU, NAU or the U of A, for a reduced tuition fee. Qualified family members may also enroll. Polytechnic campus specific Tuition Waiver Forms are available on the web.

Under current Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations, an eligible employee or family member who enrolls in an undergraduate class is not subject to taxation on the amount of the tuition discount.  In addition, under new IRS regulations, effective January 1, 2002, eligible employees who are enrolled in graduate-level classes are no longer subject to taxation on amounts up to $5250 per calendar year.

If a family member (spouse or dependent of an eligible employee enrolls as a graduate-student, the amount of the tuition discount continues to be taxable to the ASU eligible employee.

Waivers for classes at NAU, the U of A and for retirees may be brought to Dolores Shoecraft or Jackie Miller at the Administrative Services Building for approval signature. This form is available at: http://www.asu.edu/hr/forms/index.html.
