Choosing Your E-Mail System
ASU provides all students, faculty, and staff with free e-mail accounts. ASU supports more than one e-mail system for different needs. This page will help you understand the choices available to you and help you make a decision about which system suits your needs best.
Students
Gmail for ASU - Starting in October, 2006, all new ASU students will automatically receive Gmail for ASU accounts and all existing students may sign up for an account. These new accounts offer a number of exciting benefits:
- A massively increased storage quota - 2 Gigs
- Shared calendaring to coordinate schedules with classmates
- Instant messaging capability right from your inbox
- A search mechanism to mine your emails
- Improved spam and virus filtering
Existing students who sign up for this service will keep their current asu.edu addresses, and continue to login to e-mail normally with an ASURITE User ID and password. EMMA archives will also be available after the switch. The complete transition to Gmail for ASU and the decommissioning of EMMA services occured in January 2007.
For more details or to sign up simply click www.asu.edu/emailsignup. For frequently asked questions, please visit gmail.wiki.asu.edu. If you have already signed up, you can access your Gmail account at email.asu.edu.
EMMA/IMAP - Many existing students already have ASU IMAP e-mail accounts. These accounts have a 10MB quota, which may be increased to 50 MB. These accounts can be conveniently accessed through EMMA and myASU.
Employees
Microsoft Outlook/Exchange - All regular ASU employees (and student workers via a sponsored exception request) can have an e-mail account on the Exchange server with a 250 MB quota. This account provides access to administrative email, calendaring, task management, conferencing, distribution lists, and public folders via the Outlook client or the Outlook Web Interface.
