Pre-Veterinary Medicine concentration (B.S. in Agribusiness)

The pre-veterinary medicine concentration is offered in the Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness degree program. This concentration offers students the science courses necessary to apply to veterinary school, as well as a business core with courses in marketing, finance, accounting, and computer science.

Each pre-veterinary student works with an advisor to plan his/her curriculum track. This plan should include courses required to be considered for admission to the veterinary school(s) of the student’s choice. In addition to ASU’s general studies requirements, the pre-veterinary medicine program includes six semester hours of an agribusiness core, 27 semester hours of a pre-veterinary core, and an additional 15 semester hours of agribusiness-related courses. All of these requirements are applied toward the 120 semester hours required for the B.S. degree.

Students in the pre-veterinary concentration have the unique opportunity to take business management courses as part of the program. Financial and administrative skills have been identified as playing a key role in the success of practicing veterinarians, especially those who manage and/or own a veterinary practice.

For those students who earn their B.S. in Agribusiness with a concentration in pre-veterinary medicine, there are many alternative career paths for those who ultimately choose not to attend veterinary school. These opportunities include veterinary hospital management, human and veterinary pharmaceutical industries, other allied industries of the veterinary profession, and food industries. These and other prospects are available to students because of the extensive business coursework required by the program.
