BIOGRAPHY

Joseph Hilbe is an Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at the University of Hawaii, retiring in 1990. In 1992 Hilbe was appointed as an Adjunct Professor of Statistics in the Department of Sociology at Arizona State University. Sociology is now part of the ASU School of Social and Family Dynamics, where Hilbe continues to serve as an adjunct. He became an adjunct professor with the Department of Nutrition beginning in Fall, 2007. Hilbe is also a Solar System Ambassador with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasedena, CA. In the field of statistics. Hilbe is an elected Fellow of both the American Statistical Association and Royal Statistical Society (UK), has authored a number of textbooks, book chapters, and journals articles. He is also on the editorial boards of five academic journals, including The American Statistician, where he has served as Software Reviews Editor since 1997, longer than any previous editor. Hilbe has served as lead statistician for HCFA’s Medicare Infrastructure Project, lead biostatistician for the National Registry of Myocardial Infarctions and Canada’s National Registry for Cardiovascular Disease, and served as CEO for National Health Economics and Research. Hilbe is also active in continuing education, teaching four web-based courses on statistical modeling for www.statistics.com. He also conducts numerous seminars and short courses on generalized linear models, longitudinal and panel data analysis, and count response regression models throughout the world. Hilbe has authored and published a number of statistical procedures found in commercial software that are widely used in both academia and corporate research. In his role with NASA, Hilbe spends considerable time undergoing training and conducting presentations on NASA’s missions within the solar system.

• Studying the comparative application of the canonical negative binomial and its relationship to NB-2 and NB-P models
• Studying new correlation structures for generalized estimating equations
• Development of a new course and book on logistic regression models
