DI Admission Information

Admission Requirements

Applicants to the ASU DI Program must:

  1. Be graduate students who are currently in good academic standing in the Master of Science in Human Nutrition degree program at ASU's Polytechnic campus and who have completed at least six semester hours from the ASU Department of Nutrition (Students apply to the M.S. degree program first, then the DI program during their first year of graduate school).
    OR
  2. Be students who have already completed the Master of Science in Human Nutrition from ASU and meet all other admission requirements.
  3. Provide an ADA Verification Statement or Declaration of Intent to Complete a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD)/Academic Requirements (original only).
  4. Provide official transcripts showing completion of at least a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Note: Students admitted to the graduate program in Human Nutrition at ASU's Polytechnic campus may complete DPD requirements while enrolled in the M.S. degree program, then apply for admission into the Dietetic Internship. However, students may not begin the DI program until all DPD requirements have been completed and an ADA Verification Statement has been received.  For more information on DPD requirements, see the Steps to Becoming a Registered Dietitian page.

Typically all ASU MS in Human Nutrition students who are eligible for a dietetic internship (DPD courses have been completed) are admitted into the ASU Dietetic Internship during their second year of the MS program.  A maximum of eight MS students may begin the ASU DI program each year.

Preselection Process

Since admission is limited to students enrolled in the Department of Nutrition's Master of Science degree program, the Dietetic Internship does not participate in computer matching. Instead, the DI program participates in the preselect process.

In the preselection process, the program will select a maximum of eight applicants who meet admission requirements. For those who plan to participate in the preselection process, January 20 is the postmark deadline for applications. The applicant will be notified on or before February 1 confirming or denying her/his acceptance into the DI program through the preselection process.

If preselected, the program director will provide the student's name and social security number to D&D Digital Systems, Inc.via e-mail by February 1 to ensure the applicant will not participate in the computer match process. If the applicant is not selected through the preselect process, they may apply to any other dietetic internship through computer matching.
