Federal Work Study (FWS)
Federal work-study is a federally funded program designed to create job opportunities for students who qualify for need based financial aid. Students may be eligible for FWS, even if FWS was not initially awarded by the Financial Aid Office. Students may choose to use FWS in place of loans. The FWS will hold your classes, but will not automatically credit to your university charges. The award will disburse through bi-weekly paychecks for hours actually worked.
Why use FWS?
Besides earning a paycheck, there is another benefit to choosing FWS. The FWS will not be considered as income when determining your eligibility for grants and other need based assistance on the next year’s FAFSA.
Hourly Employment
If you are unable to take advantage of FWS, you can still work on campus through Hourly Employment. Hourly jobs are university jobs not subsidized by the federal government. Therefore, all registered students are eligible to apply for those positions. You will receive a bi-weekly paycheck for hours actually worked.
